Ultrazvukové vyšetření patří k těm nezajímavějším, které v těhotenství absolvujete. Mít možnost poprvé vidět očekávané miminko je velmi silný emocionální zážitek. Nejhezčí fotografie z ultrazvukového vyšetření jsou kolem 12. až 14. týdne těhotenství, kdy je na fotografii celé děťátko. V dalším stádiu těhotenství jsou na fotografii nebo videu vždy jen části miminka, protože už je moc veliké.Pokud budete mít štěstí a miminko bude správně natočené, budete moci sledovat i jeho obličej a to jak se tváří. Nová studie ultrazvukových snímků ukazuje, že děti v děloze matky začínají dělat více výrazů a grimas v obličeji ve druhé polovině těhotenství. Jejich různé výrazy jsou roztomilé, ale také signalizují pokračující vývoj mozku. Některé z výrazů mohou být také obrazem stavu vašeho emocionálního zdraví.
Cílem výzkumu bylo prozkoumat souvislost mezi stresem matky a výrazy obličeje plodu a upozornit na důležitost psychické pohody nastávajících maminek. Hlavní autorka výzkumu, Nadja Reisslanda (University of Durham) zjistila, že když se plod v děloze dotýká vlastní tváře svojí levou rukou, je možné, že se jeho maminka cítí ve špatné psychické pohodě nebo dokonce ve stresu. Gesto má mít sebe-uklidňující význam.
Při výzkumu bylo analyzováno 176 pohybů úst plodů u 15 těhotných maminek ve 24. až 36. týdnu těhotenství. V 64 procentech došlo k pohybu na levé straně obličeje, díky signálu z pravé strany mozku - pravá strana mozku ovládá levou stranu obličeje a také hraje velkou roli ve výrazu emocí. Autorka zdůrazňuje, že tato studie podporuje pouze souvislost mezi stresem matky a dotyky plodu v obličeji.
