Jistě jste slyšela spoustu názorů na jídlo a pití během I. doby porodní. Zena během porodu potřebuje spoustu síly a energie. V průběhu I. doby porodní, kdy zůstáváte ještě doma, se můžete najíst a napít dle libosti. Samozřejmě, porodní kanál je velice blízko močového měchýře a močové trubice a také blízko konečníku. Používejte adstringentní ústní vody, které aktivují slinné žlázy v ústech. Pomohou vám vytvořit mnohem více slin, které zavlažují ústní dutinu vyschlou především psím dýcháním. Často si čistěte zuby, pomáhá to opět pro svlažení úst. Pasta obsahuje adstringentní látky, budete se cítit více svěží.
Myslete na to, kdy jste byla naposledy močit. Maminky na to během kontrakcí často zapomenou a plný močový měchýř zabraňuje progresu porodu. Především na konci I. DP je někdy obtížné se na močení soustředit. Pomožte si tedy tím, že se vymočíte ve sprše - pustíte si vodu, která vás bude motivovat. Dobře také pomáhá, ponoříte-li si ruce do vlažné vody. Hlavně se snažte myslet na to, že pokud během porodu pijete, musíte také alespoň část tekutin vymočit. Pocit na močení je často přehlušen intenzitou kontrakcí děložních, které vnímáte mnohem více.
Pokud máte pocit hladu, dejte si jídlo, které je dobře stravitelné a nezůstává dlouho v žaludku a střevech. To znamená: banány, jogurty, piškoty s mlékem, malé množství bílého pečiva s mlékem, přesnídávky, polévky - vývar, pár kostiček čokolády. Pokud budete jíst v malých dávkách a jen v první části I. doby porodní, argument lékařů a porodních asistentek v nemocnicích, že musíte mít prázdná střeva kvůli možné infekci plodu stolicí při porodu či anestezii při neplánovaném císařském řezu, prostě neobstojí.
Není nutné, aby všechny ženy od začátku porodu hladověly, protože jen velmi malý počet porodů končí neplánovaně císařským řezem. Hladová žena je vyčerpaná a unavená. Nespolupracuje, jak by mohla. Chybí jí síly a porod se tímto někdy zbytečně prodlužuje nebo komplikuje. Samozřejmě, v žádném případě není dobré být přejedená.
